Before washing
• Check for color bleeding: Dab a damp white cloth on an inconspicuous area. Mud cloth often bleeds, especially at first.
• Wash separately from other items, particularly light colors.
Hand washing (best method)
1. Fill a basin with cold water.
2. Add a small amount of mild, natural detergent (avoid bleach, brighteners, or harsh chemicals).
3. Gently agitate the apron by hand—do not scrub or wring.
4. Let soak for 5–10 minutes max.
5. Rinse thoroughly in cold water until water runs mostly clear.
Machine washing (if needed)
• Use cold water, gentle/delicate cycle.
• Use a mild detergent only.
• Wash alone or with other dark items.
• Avoid fabric softener.
Drying
• Air dry only is strongly recommended.
• Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight (sun can fade the dye).
• Do not tumble dry.
Ironing
• Iron on low to medium heat while slightly damp, or place a cloth between the iron and apron.
Ongoing care tips
• Expect some fading over time—this is normal and part of mud cloth’s character.
• Wash infrequently; spot clean when possible.
